STURGEON FALLS             UP
IMG-2671 copy.jpg

DATES VISITED: July 2020, September 2020

OTHER ATTENDEES: Unknown

WEATHER: warm and summery on both visits, but September was spectacular--75F, windy and perfect.

DISTANCE: approximately 2 miles to falls.

DIFFICULTY:  The hike to the falls has noticeable elevation change but is relatively unchallenging. Lots of scrambling available near the upper falls with great views downstream past the lower falls.

SOME DAY: I will be here to see the snowmelt on the Sturgeon. TRIFECTA: This is one of the few places in the UP where you can check off a wilderness area, a wild and scenic river, and a great waterfall.

The Sturgeon is wide right up to the falls. There are great boulder fields you can walk on to get down to the river.
The river narrows from 100 feet to 20 feet when it reaches the cascade and 25 foot drop.
