WHITEFISH   SYLVANIA WILDERNESS, UP

SYLVANIA WILDERNESS

DATE PADDLED: June 4th, 2021

OTHER ATTENDEES: Portage Leader Bob Lundquist

WEATHER: Low wind and temps around 82F; sunny and warm

DISTANCE: 242 rod portage in, then easy paddling

DIFFICULTY: If you can convince your portage mate to carry the canoe both directions, this is a pretty easy paddle

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER: Listen to Charles "The Bass Doctor" Stuart and use white lures in the spring. Otherwise, quietly paddle and watch your fellow canoeist bring in monster fish one after another.

THAT'S A FIRST: The walleye Bob mostly landed was the biggest fish I've seen pulled out of a Sylvania Lake.

JUST IN TIME: Dragonfly hatch!

DON'T TELL ANYONE: That boulder field on the northwest side of the island contains some large fish.
